First when we saw the first man coming we laughed. We had to move slowly in the direction of the traditional Maori’s house (called Marae). We had to remove our shoes. The boys entered before the girls. Then we heard a man playing the guitar. The boys were singing and dancing so were the girls. The boys were sitting on the chairs and the girls were sitting on the floor. Only the men talked in Maori and in English to us. After the men did the Maori welcoming gesture; they had to press their forehead and their nose against each other twice, it is called the Hongi.
We were very surprised about the rough gestures and the aggressive movements of the Haka, after searches on internet; we discovered that Haka was not only a war dance, but also a dance of welcome. Unfortunately, the multiplication of haka outside grounds worsens a former tradition in the Oceanian cultures.
Hongi  is a traditional greeting of Maori people.

On Monday we did a little cruise on Lake Taupo. Lake Taupo contains very pure water and is the biggest lake of New Zealand (616 square kilometers). It is the result of an immense eruption and now its water provides a multitude of activities from jet boating to trout fishing and sailing. During the cruise we stopped to watch some Maori petroglyphs : it was beautiful. During the cruise, the captain allowed some of us to pilot the boat. The result was not extremely good! At the end of the cruise the captain did a quiz on New Zealand : if you got the right answer the captain gave you a lollypop. We enjoy this cruise on the Great Lake of Taupo.

On 20 September,th we went to the volcanic center, it is really an amazing place! :) We discovered many volcanic rocks, we saw a few movies, one about the Christchurch earthquake and one about Mt Ruapehu. We enjoyed the earthquake simulator, the 3D map with the volcanic position of Taupo , the geyser mockup and a tornado simulator.

We visited the Agrodome of Rotorua. The Agrodome is a farm with a lot of sheeps. We saw the sheep show, it was funny !
The man who presented the show was very cool and some students participated. We took a lot of photos and videos !
The two sheep shearing videos were recorded during the show.

Sleds revisited by the students of Magenta School :)

The day where we had planned to go skiing the chairlifts were closed.
Everybody was disappointed.
So we changed our program:
We went to Rotorua and we kept our fingers cross for the following day.
The next day the mountain was open and we went to Mt Ruapehu. Two groups were made :one for sliding and an other for skiing. It was wonderful !!!!
«- I loved skiing with my class !!! » Théo
«- I liked skiing because I did it with my friends and we had a lot of fun !!! » Nina
« -I loved skiing because it was amazing and I think we are lucky !!! » Camille
« -I liked this day because I did snowboarding and I found it fantastic to go down with my best friend !!! » Guillaume
« -We loved skiing because we were free to do anything we wanted ( but not too much) !!! » Théo and Guillaume
